General information about computers on campus (from computer orientation presentation)



Organization for our campus network service

Our University IT services are organized by 2 centers and 1 support room.

  • Information Technology Center
  • Center for Information Media Studies
  • IT Support Room
①Information Technology Center
Information Technology Center organize IT infrastructure for all of Nagoya University. Especially it offers wireless network service in Nagoya University.

②Center for Information Media Studies
Center for Information Media Studies offers IT educational infrastructures of Nagoya University, and issues University-wide ID. The situation you need your University-wide ID is below.

  • Using PC room (Room No.106) in the Integrated Research Building.
  • Using E-mail
  • Issue wireless network ID
If you forget your University-wide ID, please contact the office of Information Technology Center(located No.7 Building of Engineering Department.)

③IT support room of the GSL
Ms. TOMIZAKI is in charge of this support. (Room No. 316) If you have any questions or trouble, please visit during office hours:Monday to Friday 9:00~17:00

User ID and Password

There are two types of IDs and Passwords. One is issued from Information Technology Center and the other from Graduate School of Law.
    
User ID and Password issued from Graduate School of Law is necessary for the cases below.

  • When using the Computer at Computer Room in the GSL
  • When printing from your own PC to the printer at Computer Room 
Use ID and Password issued from Center for Information Media Studies (University-wide network ID) is necessary for the cases below.
  • When using PC Room located 1st floor in the Integrated Research Building.
  • When using wireless network in the GSL Building.
Please be careful not to forget your user ID & password.

How to access the campus wireless network (Nunet)

  • Read this file.
  • One word of caution when using open wireless networks such as Nunet or ones off campus, anything you send can easily be read by others. You are only protected if you are using a SSL connection (https://....). For more on wireless security check out security now!.

GSL Computer Room

  • Location/Software
The Computer Room is No. 907. It’s on the 2nd floor of the Common Building in the Law Department.
The following software is available for your use: Internet Explorer、Outlook Express、Microsoft Office(Word、Excel、PowerPoint、Access)

  • Access
You need your student ID card and password when you use the Computer Room. In case your student ID card is paper, please submit the Application Form for ID card to Student Affairs Office.

Turning on the power of the PC

Turn the power on. Input your user ID & password. After that click OK.
    

Turning off the power of the PC

First , click the スタート(start menu) and choose Windows の終了 (finishing Windows). Then you choose コンピュータの電源を切れる状態にする( Turn off the power source of the PC) and you click はい(yes). If someone is waiting after you to use the PC, choose アプリケーションを終了し、Windows にログインし直す (end the application and log in to Windows again).

E-mail

For regular students, the Center for Information Media studies issues your mail account ( xxxxxxx@mbox.nagoya-u.ac.jp ). SMTP server is “mbox.nagoya-u.ac.jp” and POP server is “pop.nagoya-u.ac.jp”.

For non-regular students (Graduate Research Student, Research Student) the Center for Information Media studies does not issue mail accounts. In this case you need the email address at Nagoya University, please apply for the office of Center for the Information Media studies (No. 7 Building of Engineering Department).

  • How to forward E-mail
The E-mail that is sent to the address, xxxxxxx@mbox.nagoya-u.ac.jp, can be forward to your other mail addresses by way of Nagoya University’s server. You can forward your mbox e-mail from this webpage.

  • In case you forget your University-wide ID:
Please contact the office at Information Technology Center(located No.7 Building of Engineering Department.)

Page Limits for Printing

The limit of papers for printing is 600 papers a month. If you print more than 600, the printer will stop printing automatically. If it is necessary to print more than 600 papers, please submit the “application from of mass printing”. The sheet can be found here.

It is best to conserve resources and save your documents in electronic form rather than print everything. Moreover, it is much easier to search, quote, and otherwise use electronic copies. Reserve printing for essential documents.

How to use your own computer in the GSL

In the new law school building, Please access Internet by using wireless LAN network. In case your PC is not built in wireless LAN function, please prepare wireless LAN card by your self. Wireless LAN adapter is required to correspond to IEEE 802.11b or IEEE 802.11g. Please read the details in the attached handout “How to set a connection to wireless LAN”.

How to use Lexis-Nexis

You can use database named Lexis-Nexis. It‘s a legal pay database launched in 1973.
To use this database, you need to apply for the user ID and password. If you want to apply, send an E-mail with your student ID, name, and name in roman character, written. E-mail address: lexis@nomolog.nagoya-u.ac.jp. We will accept the mail and do the registration to Lexis-Nexis. We will let you know when ID and password comes from Lexis-Nexis.

How to use Japanese Law Database

You can use the Japanese Law Database in the GSL below.
