All about snail mail
General Information
The postal service in Japan is generally very good, though expensive compared to many countries. The postal service also operates a bank. The banking services are very handy since you can access your account at any post office.
Sending mail
For sending mail overseas there are several options from EMS (fastest but most expensive) to surface mail.
- Tip if you send a package with items but no letter inside you can send it at a cheaper price. Be sure to tell the desk person that it is a small package without a letter.
Receiving mail
Getting mail is no problem. However, it seems that if you are sent items by an express carrier such as Federal Express there is a greater chance that you will be charged import taxes.
