Finding Employment in Japan or elsewhere

Part-time

Rules

  • Depending on your visa and program you may or may not be permitted to work. Check with the office to be sure. In any case you will need special permission from the university before you begin any jobs.
  • Students are often hired as TAs (teaching assistants) by professors. This can be a good way to get university experience, help out your professor, and network. Look for listings on campus or ask your professor.

Full time

  • After you finish your program if you would like to stay in Japan and work, you will need a visa. Normally an employer will sponsor you. Without a visa you cannot legally work or even remain in Japan. Be careful.
  • For jobs in the academic world in Japan check out JREC-IN (Mostly in Japanese)
