If you have a scholarship you will be paid directly into a bank account. Most money transfers are done through banks.
- MUFG - Most students will have to open an account at The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ.
Tokai BankUFJMUFG has an English homepage but it does not have very much information.
- Shinsei bank offers full services in English and you can use the ATMs at many convience stores free* 24 hours a day and the post office.
- Sending money home can be done through
Tokai BankUFJMUFG but it can be slow and expensive. Many students use Lloyds TSB service as an alternative. This service offers same day transfers by ATM for 2000円 + cost to transfer from your bank + any costs charged by receiving bank. Lloyds has a refer a member program so if you sign up through a friend they get a 2000円 credit.
